Tihei mauriora!

E ngā mana, e ngā reo, e ngā karangatanga maha, huri noa, tēnā rā tātou katoa!

As we enter our second week of national lockdown, we’d like to thank you, Hawke’s Bay. Make no mistake – we know it’s not easy. We know we’re not “just” being asked to stay home. Let’s not downplay the magnitude of this: we’re all making a sacrifice, and we’re doing it for everyone. It’s the biggest, most important job we’ve ever had – and for many of us, it comes at an enormous personal cost.

Rest assured our dedicated Hawke’s Bay Civil Defence Emergency Management Group team is working hard in partnership with our District Health Board as the two local lead agencies. The group’s mission is clear: to identify and connect our most vulnerable with essential support services, to ensure no one falls through the gaps.

The group is using community networks – people and organisations already connected with our most at-risk people – to actively seek those most vulnerable to the impacts of Covid-19, and building these networks so we can quickly extend our reach into our communities. Our regional approach is evolving, and will continue to evolve as the situation and people’s needs change.

We, as regional leaders, are meeting with our Civil Defence and District Health Board teams over video conference every day, to discuss and work through any issues. We know what’s happening across our region and we’re determined to reduce the effects of COVID-19 to a minimum, for all our people.

We can all play our part by sticking to the rules. Everyone should stay at home. This is the best thing we can all do to stop the spread of COVID-19. This will save lives.

No reira e te whānau, kia kaha, kia māia, kia manawanui.

Tihei mauriora!
